JUICING DAY #3

SUNDAY, APRIL 21, 2013

TODAY'S WEIGHT: X19
 LOSS TO DATE: 15.4LBS
 MOOD: Tired, Slightly Depressed, Irritable
HUNGER LEVEL: Moderate
WORDS OF ADVICE: Get plenty of sleep and try something new!

So here we are on day three. I am definitely starting to feel the detox symptoms kicking in. My head hurts, I'm tired and I just want to lay in bed (though I have forced myself up to do Sunday errands with the hubby). I'm ready for this to be over and start eating normal again (not McDonalds or anything like that... but just solid foods in general... I'm dying for a veggie burger!).

I went to bed super early and got about 8 hours of solid sleep. I needed that!

JUICING DAY #2

SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 2013

TODAY'S WEIGHT: X20
LOSS TO DATE: 13LBS (lost through conventional dieting)
MOOD: Tired, Slightly Depressed
HUNGER LEVEL: Moderate
WORDS OF ADVICE: Don't forget about commitments you made to others!

On to day two! I got up at 5am (after a terrible night of sleep) and got on my elliptical for 20 minutes. This is by no means my record time, I just had zero energy... but I got my heart rate up there and maintained it. I thought I was going to die when I stepped off. I showered and then set off to Eastern Market in Detroit with a good friend. I shopped for two hours and bought tons of fruits and veggies for far cheaper than any grocery store in my area.

I had forgotten that I made a commitment to my mother-in-law to attend a luncheon for the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. This is where my forgetfulness and poor planning come into play. She had invited me and paid $50 for my ticket about a month ago. I started fully juicing on Friday. I felt obligated to eat some of the food that was so kindly ordered and paid for. I did well though, only eating about a third of the small broasted chicken breast, one steamed redskin potato and about a third of a cup of mixed steamed veggies and some salad. I was so full from that! But then I started feeling guilty because I felt like a failure. But I jumped back on juicing and I'm feeling good!

I am finding it necessary to drink a lot of water between juices to maintain a full feeling; otherwise I'm ravenous with hunger!

JUICING DAY #1

FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2013

TODAY'S WEIGHT: X20
LOSS TO DATE: 13LBS (lost through conventional dieting)
MOOD: Good, Upbeat, Excited
HUNGER LEVEL: Low
WORDS OF ADVICE: In the words of Dori, just keep swimming!

Today is day numero uno for my juice cleanse ("reboot"). I have to say that I am excited and upbeat to be doing this for more reasons than the obvious weight loss.

My day passed without any major episodes of hunger, which made me happy. I made all my juices the night before so they were all ready to go when I left for work. I made a variety of juices, but I think as time goes on, I will cut down of the daily variety and stick to one or two juices for a day, then switch it up for the next day. It was very time consuming to prepare four different juices.

Updates

Well, to date I have lost 15 pounds... YAY ME!

I am starting a juice cleanse (starting it today, officially). I watched the move "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" and decided, you know what... Imma do this! So I have been prepping myself all week to start a 10 day cleanse. I went to my doctor and had blood work done, got my cholesterol results (and I'm happy that my cholesterol is NORMAL!!!).

I do have to say I've gone all out on this, so I intend to full stick to this and see myself through to the end!

I got myself a new scale off of Amazon, which is freaking awesome and it sinks via blue tooth or WiFi to my cell phone and uploads to the app, that I have synced to My Fitness Pal. I also got a Body Media arm band (I guess its what the people on the show The Biggest Loser use, I've never personally watched the show). The band works pretty awesomely so far... I am shocked by my daily calorie burn!

So with all my gadgets and gizmos, I have my eye on the prize and I'm 15 pounds closer to it!!! Stay tuned for my daily juice cleanse journal!

Peace out!

Motivation

I admit to falling off the wagon after my baby girl passed away two weeks ago. I've also been super busy with my best friends wedding (which was this past Friday, and beautiful). Now that life seems to be calming down I'm jumping back on the wagon.

I'm trying to find a good diet plan to follow. What I've been doing is just fine to start with, but for the long haul, I need something more formal (I now me, I need direction). So I started looking at the website Live Strong, and there are some helpful things on the site. For one, I'm looking at the Ketosis diet (which sounds really similar to Atkins or is it South Beach that limits carbs). But the diet seems more structured and strict in your carb intake, exercise and supplements. So we shall see.

BCAA, I have never heard of this before... but then again, I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable person in the health and wellness arena. Anywho, BCAA is Branched-Chain Amino Acids. Now this stuff is used to treat some hefty ailments (liver disease, diabetes, brain issues...), but it is also used to help burn fat rather than muscle. My research of Ketosis says that you need to take BCAA's to keep from burning muscle rather than the fat. I think this requires further research, but I'm really thinking about this.

Basically you have less than 20 grams of carbs a day, exercise (strength and cardio), eat high protein foods (chicken, beef, fish...) and take your dietary supplements; I guess doing this for 30 days is really supposed to jump start weight loss. Things that make you go hmmmm....

My New Obsession

Thanks to my wonderful co-workers, I have a new obsession!!! They kept talking about a phone app that someone here used to help lose weight. So I had to ask what the app was so I could download it, what a mistake (in a good way)... I can't put my phone down!!! The app is "My Fitness Pal". I'm not sure if this is an iPhone only app or if you can get it on Droid too. The app is free and is absolutely amazing! Try it out!

The app was the first one that came up when I typed in "my fitness pal" and to make it even sweeter... did I mention IT'S FREE!!!!! You heard me correctly boys and girls, a FREE iPhone app that is worth its weight in gold!

RIP Baby Girl

I took a blog vacation for the past week... not because I'm being lazy, but because I lost my very dear kitty cat, Bisquit. Bisquit and I (and the hubs) have been together since she was a kitten to the ripe old age of 18 (which is pretty old for a cat). She was my baby girl, the one and only cat I have ever met that I had a connection with. She wasn't the "typical" cat, she craved affection and was usually on my lap within five minutes of sitting down.

She died in our arms, in our home surrounded by her fur brother and sisters. It was very sad and bittersweet, and left me emotionally drained for the last week (I still think of her all the time). He had her cremated that night and brought her ashes home the next day, so we will always have our baby girl with us.

I'm proud that I didn't end up eating myself into oblivion, instead I opted for lot of alcohol. I maintained my smooth regiment and eating healthy... until the weekend. But considering the heartache I thought I'd never feel for the loss of my cat, I think I deserved a few drinks...

So with this, I say my final goodbye to my sweet baby girl... stay safe and have fun on the Rainbow Bridge and I'll see you again!
